HISTORICAL AND FICTIONAL IMAGINARIES IN THE NOVELS "100 GOTAS DE SANGRE Y 200 DE SUDOR" (1961) AND "SUPAY EL CRISTIANO" (1967) BY CARLOS DROGUETT

Abstract

Carlos Droguett's historical novels have been the works that have received the least attention from literary critics. The first two can be considered as initial texts in the author's literary career since they were written in the early years of the 1940s. Despite the little critical attention they have received, these texts are positioned in a privileged place within the Chilean and Latin American literary field, especially in regarding the form of the historical novel. Additionally, they inaugurate the poetics of the author in terms of the vision of the world that he will shape in all his subsequent works. The objective of this article is to analyze the literary resources present in his first two historical novels and the way in which both texts configure new historical imaginaries based on fiction and expose a tragic poetics regarding the history of Chile.
