Mapuche ethniccultural poetry
Abstract
As a result of many years of interethnic contact some mapuche poets have participed in the production of ethniccultural poetry as an expression of the sociocultural and ethnic variety in Chile. The most outstanding ones are Sebastián Queupul, and Luis Vulliamy, pioneers of this new kind of writing; Pedro Alonzo who combined some mapuche singings with western poetry; Elicura Chihuailaf who has promoted an intercultural link with global society; and Leonel Lienlaf who has developed his poetic work as a reproduction of ancestral traditions of mapuche society.
